The beginners pole-lathing course

You may attend the second day to further the skills you learn on the basic course.

The  beginners course includes learning how to:

  • Set up the pole lathe
  • Select, cleave and axe the wood ready for the shave horse
  • Use the spoke shave and horse to finish the piece of wood ready for the pole lathe
  • Use the lathe, chisels and gouges to shape the wood
  • Make a dibber then try your hand at a leg!
  • Finally to finish your work to take home

The cost is £90 per person and is available on the following date: TBA. The course is for a maximum of 6 participants only, from 10am–4pm.  Tea, coffee  & lunch are provided. Please wear suitable clothing and boots and arrive at 9.30am for a prompt 10am start.

The intermediate pole-lathing course

The course is an extension from the previous day and you will be turning three legs the same to make a stool.

  • How to look after the tools and sharpen them
  • More techniques and skills for advanced pole lathing
  • Make a three turned legged stool
  • Finally to finish your work to take home
