2nd February 2019 at the Rectory farm on the Wimpole Estate SG8 5RB
The Competitions will start at 09.00 and finish at 14.00 on the Saturday of the 2nd of February 2019, the draw for the cants will be at 08.30 so be at Rectory farm for 08.00-08.30. Each cant will be 8m long, stakes and binders provided as is lunch and cutting money.
The two styles used are Midland/Bullock and South of England. However if more than two people wish to do another style please contact me below. Each cant can be undertaken by an individual or a team, again please let me know if you are a team. There will be prizes for 1st-£20, 2nd-£15 & 3rd-£10 but there will also be a prize for the best hedge laid traditionally with an axe and billhook, absolutely no chainsawing allowed. Every cant that is finished or almost finished will also recieve £25 cutting money and lunch will be provided at Rectory farm barns and there is room for parking.
Rules (got to have some 🙂 )
If using chainsaws then PPE to be worn (we have some should any be forgotten)
Be neighbourly, it helps make for a good day
Draw at 08.30 for start at 09.00
Everyone to finish at 14.00 so we can organise hot lunch for everyone
Both styles of hedge will be marked predominantly for its ability to contain live stock
Therefore pleachers must be robust and it is preferable to double fold pleachers to cover large gaps and only use deadwood in the last resort.
Championship Points system is:
MIDLAND: Cut & Pleach 35, Stake & Bind 25, Back of Hedge 20, General
SOUTH of ENGLAND: Height 35, Pleaches 25, Back of Hedge 20, General
