Unfortunately there is very little evidence so far of the Iron Age within the Wimpole parish. However the Mares Way which runs along the top of the ridge from Barrington is thought to be at least as old as the Iron Age. Recent archeological excavations above Barrington village and the CEMEX cement works revealed Iron Age occupation on this ridge. It is suspected that where hot spots of Roman pottery are found, this may indicate previous Iron Age settlements.
Some Iron Age round houses were found when they dug the new gas pipe line south of the A603, just west of New Wimpole village. Also, a few bronze Iron Age finds have been found within the estate. We are pretty certain that as more efforts are made to understand the archaeology at Wimpole, we will find more evidence of the Iron Age settlers.
